Installation- and Operation Instruction
Gasentnahmesonden / Sample Gas Probes
Baureihe / Series 222.xx AMEX
NOTE
Ceramic filter elements
are very brittle by nature. Handle them with care, don’t drop
them.
Filter elements made out of sintered stainless
steel can be cleaned in an ultrasonic
bath and be used several times as long as both seals are still in proper conditions.
!
CAUTION
!
Breakage hazard
Do not damage rear element spigot.
NOTE
The
weather shield
can only be closed when the handle of the filter is positioned verti-
cally. Pull cover up to the highest point to unlock support, lower it down in position, en-
sure that the latch is locked in.
7.4
Probe type GAS 222.35 AMEX, 31 AMEX and 21 AMEX
The probes
35 AMEX
and
31 AMEX
have an in-situ filter (inside the process).
This filter can be cleaned by a blow back with plant air (inert gas) i.e. the pressurized air (inert gas) is
blown from inside to outside and back washes the filter element.
The probe
21 AMEX
can be equipped with an in-situ filter as well as a downstream filter.
Blow back to flammable gas is only allowed with nitrogen (inert gas). Blow back to explosive gas is not
allowed.
It is obvious that the cleaning efficiency of an in-situ filter depends on the amount of air (inert gas) blown
through the element. We recommend installing a pressure vessel (option) close to the probe to provide an
adequate air flow.
Normally these probes are free of maintenance, if the blowback of the in-situ filter is efficient. However it
may happen due to process conditions that the in-situ filter clogs up after a certain time. In this case the
filter has to be replaced:
GAS 222.31 AMEX and 21 AMEX: Therefore the probe must be completely dismounted and after changing
the filter be installed again as described in chapter 6. If the sample gas probe 21 AMEX is equipped with a
downstream filter, change the filter as described in chapter 7.3 (probe 222.20 AMEX)
GAS 222.35 AMEX: First switch off the power supply and stop the process. Open the weather shield by
pulling the latch and move the cover upwards; it has a self locking support.
Push the handle slightly on the rear of the probe, turn by 90° and pull (the handle must be now in horizontal
position) the handle with the filter out. Unscrew the exhausted filter element and check proper conditions of
the sealing surfaces. Before installing the new filter element always replace the O-Ring on the handle plug
carefully, put a new filter element with the seal onto it and insert the handle into the probe. Push to the very
end and turn handle 90° spigot (handle is vertical now).
Pull the handle to examine whether the handle
stucks.
