6.18 TAIL LAMP
ULYSSES/FIREBOLT/LIGHTNING
Removal
NOTE
Tail/stop lamp - Illuminated with LEDs. Replace entire assembly
upon failure.
1. Remove seat.
2. Disconnect tail lamp harness connectors [93] from tail
lamp.
3. See Figure 6-66 . Remove nuts and washers (2) securing
tail lamp (3) to center tail section (1) and remove tail lamp.
NOTE
See Figure 6-67 . On Firebolt and Lightning models the tail
lamp (3) is held in place with two outside screws (2).
4. Remove these screws (2) in order to remove the tail lamp
(3) from the center tail section (1).
Installation
1. See Figure 6-66 . Install tail lamp (3) with nuts and washers
(2) to the center tail section (1).
2. Tighten nuts to 12-36 in-lbs (1.4-4 Nm).
3. See Figure 6-67 . Install the LED tail lamp (3) with two
screws (2). Tighten to 6-7 in-lbs (0.7-0.8 Nm).
4. Attach the tail lamp harness connector [93].
Be sure that all lights and switches operate properly before
operating motorcycle. Low visibility of rider can result in
death or serious injury. (00316a)
5. Check tail lamp for proper operation. If operation fails,
reread procedure and verify that all steps were performed.
a. Turn ignition key switch to ON.
b. Check for tail lamp illumination.
c. Squeeze front brake hand lever. Check for brake lamp
illumination. Release front brake hand lever.
d. Press rear brake pedal. Check for brake lamp illumin-
ation. Release rear brake pedal.
e. Turn ignition key switch to OFF.
After installing seat, pull upward on seat to be sure it is
locked in position. While riding, a loose seat can shift
causing loss of control, which could result in death or
serious injury. (00070b)
6. Install seat.
