TURN SIGNAL FLASHER

REMOVAL

NOTE

The turn signal flasher is not repairable. Replace the unit if it
fails.

1.

Remove seat. See

Disconnect negative (-) battery cable first. If positive (+)
cable should contact ground with negative (-) cable con-
nected, the resulting sparks can cause a battery explo-
sion, which could result in death or serious injury.

2.

Disconnect negative battery cable.

3.

Pry tab on circuit breaker clip left side and remove circuit
breaker from clip with wires still attached.

4.

See 

Figure 7-70.

  Remove screw and flasher relay from

frame tray.

5.

Unplug relay connector [30] from flasher relay and
remove flasher relay.

INSTALLATION

1.

See 

Figure 7-70.

  Connect relay connector [30] to new

turn signal flasher relay.

2.

Attach flasher relay to frame tray with screw. Tighten
screw to 48-60 in-lbs (5.4-8 Nm).

3.

Install circuit breaker to clip.

4.

Connect negative battery cable to battery terminal.
Tighten fastener to 60-96 in-lbs (6.8-10.9 Nm).

Be sure that all lights and switches operate properly
before operating motorcycle. Low visibility of rider can
result in death or serious injury. (00316a)

Check turn signals for proper operation. If operation fails,
reread procedure and verify that all steps were per-
formed.

a. 

Turn ignition key switch to IGN.

b. 

Activate left turn signals using switch on left handle-
bar. Front and rear left turn signals must flash.

c.  Activate right turn signals using switch on left han-

dlebar. Front and rear right turn signals must flash.

d. 

Turn ignition key switch to OFF.

After installing seat, pull upward on front of seat to be
sure it is in locked position. While riding, a loose seat can
shift causing loss of control, which could result in death
or serious injury. (00070a)
