Bosch Power Tools

Charging Procedure

The charging process begins as soon as the 12 V plug

6

 is

plugged into an energised 12 V socket, the specified input
voltage is present (the vehicle engine has been started) and
the inductive battery

1

or the power tool with battery

1

 (with

base of the battery) is placed onto the charging platform

5

.

The charging process only begins when the battery capacity is
less than 85 – 90 %. This prolongs the life of the battery.

Due to the intelligent charging method, the charging condi-
tion of the battery is automatically detected and the battery is
charged with the optimum charging current, depending on
battery temperature and voltage.

This gives longer life to the battery and always leaves it fully
charged when kept in the charger for storage.

Meaning of the Indication Elements

Continuous Light Standby Indicator (green) 2

The

continuous light

 of the

green

 standby indica-

tor

2

shows that input voltage is present and the

charger is ready to use.

Flashing Charge Status Indicator 3

The fast charging process is indicated by
the

flashing

 of the respective

green

 LED of

the charge status indicator

3

. When the re-

spective share of the battery is charged, the

green flashing light changes to a

green continuous light

.

The battery can be removed at any time and used. When all
five LEDs indicate a green continuous light, the battery is fully
charged.

Continuous Light Error Indicator (red) 4

The

continuous light

 of the

red

 error indicator

4

shows that the temperature of the battery or
charger is outside of the permitted charging tem-
perature range, see section “Technical Data”. As

soon as the permitted temperature range is reached, the
charger automatically switches to fast charging.

Flashing Error Indicator (red) 4

The

flashing light

 of the

red

 error indicator

4

 sig-

nals a different fault of the charger, see section
“Troubleshooting – Causes and Corrective Mea-
sures”.

Working Advice

The charger is combined with a voltage transformer

9

 which

converts the 12 V on-board voltage into a 290 V voltage.
When doing so, the voltage transformer

9

 monitors the bat-

tery voltage in the vehicle. It is designed to switch the charger
on only when the engine is running or at an on-board voltage
> 13 V (+/- 0.3 V). If the engine is switched off or at an on-
board voltage < 13 V (+/- 0.3 V), the charger will switch itself
off automatically after a follow-up time of 3 minutes.

As the charger also draws power from the starter battery
when no battery is being charged (idling), it should be discon-
nected from the power supply when not being used for pro-
longed periods of time.

With continuous or several repetitive charging cycles without
interruption, the charger can warm up. This is not meaningful
and does not indicate a technical defect of the battery charg-
er.

A significantly reduced working period after charging indi-
cates that the battery is used and must be replaced.

Troubleshooting – Causes and Corrective
Measures

Maintenance and Service

If the battery charger should fail despite the care taken in
manufacturing and testing procedures, repair should be car-
ried out by an authorised after-sales service agent for Bosch
power tools.

In all correspondence and spare parts orders, please always
include the 10-digit article number given on the type plate of
the charging unit or voltage transformer.

After-sales Service and Application Service

Our after-sales service responds to your questions concern-
ing maintenance and repair of your product as well as spare
parts. Exploded views and information on spare parts can al-
so be found under:

www.bosch-pt.com

Bosch’s application service team will gladly answer questions
concerning our products and their accessories.
