Introduction
To get the most out of your new bench grinder, please read through all the instructions written in this owner's manual.
Special safety instructions
Always use the correct type of grinding wheels for the type of work to be performed.
Never use damaged grinding wheels or steel brushes.
Never use larger grinding wheels.
Never put your hands in the vicinity of the working area while the grinding wheel is rotating.
Never allow hands or fingers holding the item to be worked to get near to the grinding wheel while it is rotating.
Always keep the mounting spindle and flanges clean.
Never allow the grinding wheel or steel brush to contact with the item to be worked - or other objects- when starting the machine.
Do not touch the metal parts until they have cooled down.
Do not leave the machine unattended before the grinding wheel has come to a complete standstill. Please note that it takes a some time for the wheel to come
to a complete standstill after you have switched the machine off.
Main components (Picture A)
1. Spark screen
2. Mounting bracket
3. Rest
4. On/off button
5. Base
6. Grinding wheel, coarse
7. Grinding stone, fine/steel brush wheel
Assembly and main adjustments
Attach the base (5) to the workbench using suitable bolts. Check that the grinder is securely attached and leveled. If required, a piece of soft wood can be
inserted between the base and the workbench to damp vibrations.
Fit the two rests (3) using the adjustment handles/bolts, and secure them in the desired position.
Fit the two spark screens (1) on their mounting brackets (2) above the protective guards. The gap between the rest (3) and grinding wheels/steel brush must
not exceed 2mm when the grinder is in use.
Insert plug in the mains socket.
Main Operation
Grinding
Place the rest in front of the stone to be used by loosening the adjustment handle, adjust the rest to the required position and then re-tighten the handle.
Switch on using the on/off button (4) and allow the grinder to reach full speed before beginning to work.
Present the item to the stone slowly, increasing pressure gently and gradually. Never present the item abruptly to the stone, as this may cause the item to
kickback and damage the grinding wheel or cause injury to the user or other people.
Hold the item firmly using both hands to prevent it getting stuck between the grinding wheel and rest, which can damage the grinding stone.
Cool the item in water at regular intervals when working for extended periods.
When grinding tools, never allow the metal to overheat.
Never grind materials such as wood, plastic or soft metals (e.g. lead) as they will block the pores of the grinding stones, reducing their effectiveness.
Replacing the grinding stones (Picture B)
Remove the spark screen and rest.
Loosen the nut on the outer flange using an adjustable wrench and remove the outer flange. The right-hand spindle (as seen from the front) has a right-hand
thread whilst the left-hand spindle has a left-hand thread.
Remove the grinding stone.
Remove any filings from around the spindle and flanges.
Fit the new stone, outer flange and lock nut. Replace the rest and the spark screen.
Start the grinder and let it run freely for a few seconds to check that the grinding disk is correctly fitted. This procedure will also tighten the lock nut automat
-
ically as the thread direction is opposite to rotation.
Cleaning and maintenance
The grinder can be cleaned by wiping its exterior parts with a damp cloth. Grinding dust and filings can be removed by using a brush or compressed air.
Do not use corrosive or abrasive cleaning agents.
Disposal
Deliver all electrical devices to your local recycling centre, do not dispose them with your household waste.
