NOTICE

The start attempt is automatic-
ally interrupted if battery voltage
is too low. Recharge the battery
before you start the engine, or
use jump leads and a donor bat-
tery to start.
See the subsection on jump
starting in "Maintenance" for
more details.

Consult the troubleshooting
chart below if the engine re-
fuses to start. (

Pre-Ride-Check

After having switched on the
ignition, the instrument cluster
tests the instrument dials, the
warning and indicator lights as
well as the displays and com-
pletes the so-called "Pre-Ride-
Check". The test is aborted if

you start the engine before it
completes.

Phase 1

All the segments are shown in
the display

At the same time, all the warning
lights and indicator lights

are

switched on.

Phase 2

The general warning light

no

longer lights up permanently and
starts flashing.
The needle

for the speed

indicator moves to maximum
speed.

Phase 3

The needle

The indicator and warning lights
go out or assume operational
status, as applicable.

The malfunction indicator lamp
only goes out after 15 seconds.

The display switches to its ordin-
ary display mode. The on-board
computer readings appear on the
display.

If the needle did not move, an
indicator or warning light did not
switch on or segments on the
display are missing:

Have the fault rectified as
quickly as possible by a
specialist workshop, preferably
an authorised BMW Motorrad
dealer.
