With an Electrical Meter, turn the
key to the RUN position. Do you
have at least 12.6 Volts or higher at
the Fuel Pump for 5 seconds?
Engine Doesn’t Start
Note: Your Engine is equipped with a Zenith Fuel Injection System (Z.E.E.M.S.). Engine diagnosis is
the same as an Engine with a Carburetor.
Note: Make sure the Engine has oil and antifreeze; Waste Tank is empty, and that you have at least
a half tank of gasoline.
Turn off all Switches: Pump Switch, Trans. Pump
Switch, Waste Pump Switch, and Aux Switch. Does
the Engine start and run for about 5 seconds?
When you turn the key to the RUN
position, do you hear the Fuel
Pump turn on for about 5 seconds?

for 5 seconds!
When the Engine is cold, test each
cylinder with a Compression Gauge. Do
all of the cylinders test 180 PSI + or –
10% or between 165 PSI and 195 PSI?

Disconnect the Return Fuel Hose from
the machine. Attach a separate hose to
the machine side. Run the hose to a
separate container. Turn the key to the
RUN position. Is there gasoline being
returned?
Yes No
When the Engine is cold, test for spark at
the Ignition Coil. Do you have a spark?
Yes No
When the Engine is cold, test for spark at each
cylinder. Do you have spark at each cylinder?
Replace Distributor Cap,
Rotor, Wires, and Spark
Plugs!
Yes No
When the Engine is cold, check the firing
order. It should be 1-3-4-2 going counter-
clockwise. Is the firing order correct?
Correct Firing Order! Yes No
When the Engine is cold, pull the Vacuum
Hose off the Distributor and plug it off. With
a Timing Light, check the Ignition Timing. Is
the Timing 10

before Top Dead Center?

When the Engine is cold, pull the Air Filter Off. Is
the Air Filter Clean?

Correct Timing Order!
