The biggest advantage of component speakers is their ability, when properly installed, to provide
a tonally accurate sound with a wide sound stage but pinpoint localization of performers. The
largest impact over this sound stage is provided by the tweeter location and mounting angle. To
determine this optimal location and angle we recommend a simple experiment.
Complete all of the installation except for the tweeters
woofers, crossover, and wiring).
2. Have a friend sit in the passenger’s seat while you sit in the driver’s seat, each holding a
tweeter up to the door.
3. With music having good high frequency content, move the tweeters around listening for the
best high frequency response yet maintaining a good left/right acoustical balance in the car.
Mounting the tweeters mid level and as far forward in the door panel is often the best
acoustical location in most cars. In most cases, the preferred location usually has the
tweeters facing the opposite occupant in the car.
The tweeter can now be mounted in one of the following four methods.
FLUSH MOUNT
This mount looks as though it is styled into the car. The
listeners are still slightly off-axis from the tweeter so high
frequency response suffers slightly.
A hole must be drilled to accommodate the flush cup. A
screw run in from the back and through the spring clip is
necessary to ensure a solid lifetime fit.
ANGLE FLUSH MOUNT
Acoustically and aesthetically, this is the BEST mounting
system. The tweeter is angled at the opposite occupant in the
car.
Like the flush cup, a hole must be drilled to accommodate the
cup. The spring clip is attached with the screw as shown.
SURFACE MOUNT
This method is used in installations where room is not
available behind the tweeter to drill a mounting hole for a flush
type
For this mounting method, a hole is drilled for both the wires
and mounting screw. A rear spring clip is not necessary but a
small backing washer is recommended to ensure that the
screw will not pull through the door panel over time.
ANGLE SURFACE MOUNT
Angling the tweeter puts the acoustical output of the tweeter
pointing ‘more at the listeners which give better high frequency
response.
Like the flat surface mount above, holes must be drilled for
the wires and screw. This mount is unique since the
