Installation and Getting Started Guide

Connecting to the desktop
software

To use the desktop software, your handheld must be connected to
your computer.

To confirm the handheld-to-desktop
software connection

1. Connect the serial port cable to an available serial port on your

computer.

2. Secure the handheld in the cradle by inserting the connector

port on the bottom edge of the handheld into the connector
prongs of the cradle.

3. Start the desktop software: on the Windows taskbar, click

Start

and select

Programs > BlackBerry > Desktop Manager

. The

BlackBerry Desktop Manager appears.

4. In the desktop manager, on the

Options

menu, click

Connection Settings

. The Connection Settings window

appears.

5. Click

Detect

. A warning dialog box prompts you to verify that

your handheld is connected properly.

6. Click

. The software notifies you when the handheld has

been detected.

Note:

If you enable a password on your handheld, you must type it on

your computer before you can connect to the desktop software.
