CHAPTER 11: Modem Radio Diagnostic LEDs
11. Modem Radio Diagnostic LEDs
The four LEDs on the modem’s front panel provide information on the operation
of the modem:
P
Power
C
Carrier
I
Data In (of the port)
O
Data Out (of the port)
The Power LED indicates that the modem is powered up and ready to operate.
The Carrier LED indicates that the modem has established a link. In point-to-point
mode, all of the modems in the system will have their carriers on when a
communications link is established. In multipoint mode, the master’s carrier will
only come on when a slave or repeater is broadcasting to it. The slaves and
repeaters will have a carrier LED lit when they have established a link with the
master. Data does not need to be moving, nor does the modem need any
handshaking lines, for the carrier to be established.
The I and O LEDs indicate data is moving in and out of the port. These LEDs are
tied to the communications port and not the RF section of the modem.
