The following chart states the approximate Upstream and Downstream

speeds for Synchronous data rates at various distances.

Bandwidth  Control

Users can configure the amount of bandwidth of the data stream between

the VDSL ports of the Host CO and Remote CPE units via management only;
therefore, the Host CO module must be installed inside an SNMP-manage-
able chassis.  Please refer to the iView² help file for media conversion for
more information.

Negotiation

When deploying both a Host CO module and a Remote CPE module

inside an unmanaged chassis, the units will negoiate upwards to the highest
or maximum obtainable synchronous speed. For example at a 2Km distance,
the Upstream and Downstream data rates will each be 10 Mbps.
Negotiation can take up to 30 seconds.

Configuring the LAN Extender Modules

The LAN Extender Modules can be configured in both managed and

unmanaged environments. Directions for each configuration method fol-
loow:

Managed Modules

To manage the LAN Extender Modules, an SNMP agent must be present.

Though iMediaChassis require a management module, iMediaCenter Series
chassis include embedded management.  When using the LAN Extender
Modules in a managed environment, manually configure features which
cannot be configured via management software prior to installing the mod-
ule.  After completing hardware configuration, install the LAN Extender
Module, and configure additional features via the software.

The LAN Extender Modules are only SNMP-manageable and software

configurable if installed in a managed chassis.  Some features may not be
software configurable on a remote unit.

Test the modules first in an unmanaged environment.  To do this,  remove

the management module from a managed chassis.  Follow the unmanaged
configuration instructions, then install the module, connect the cables and
test the LEDs.  When finished, reactivate management and configure the
unit via the software.

N O T E

Management software will override any hardware settings (e.g.,
jumper, switch, etc.), so managed modules MUST configured, via
the software.  Until this occurs, the module (and its LEDs) may not
work properly.
