3.5 Network Notes
The Black Box Network Video Codec uses UDP (User Datagram Protocol) or
TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) to send video across the network. If UDP
Multicast is selected as the transmission protocol, then the same network
bandwidth is used regardless of the number of PCs receiving the video. If UDP
Unicast or TCP is selected, then only one user can view the video from that
particular Network Video Codec at any one time. When no one is viewing the
video, the Codec stops transmitting.
NOTE
UDP, unlike TCP, does not retransmit lost network packets. If the
required network bandwidth is not available, the quality of the video
deteriorates.
