Further criteria for positioning the trap:
• The CO
2
gas cylinder must be securely fixed in a vertical
position. It should be fixed with ropes or cords to prevent
it from falling over.
• The CO
2
cylinder should not be exposed to direct sunlight,
intense heat, or extreme cold or frost.
• The pressure reducing regulator needs to be protected from
rain. Place a plastic bag over it, or place it under shelter.
• Please make sure that people, children, and animals can-
not trip over the electric cables or CO
2
tube.
• The trap should be placed on the ground or relatively close
to the ground.

Rain shelter

Breeding sites that can not be avoided:
Always try to avoid breeding sites!
Mosquitoes lay their eggs in natural and man-made containers. Therefore, empty or
completely cover rain barrels; remove old tires; empty plant saucers, buckets, and other water holding containers; keep
rain gutters clear.
If these breeding sites can not be avoided, placing a trap near such a larval habitats can be effective; however, always take
care of choosing a position that is protected from the sun and wind!
To protect your pets from mosquitoes, don’t place the trap directly next to their outdoor shelters, but 2-3 m away.
Heavy rain might reduce the catch rates. Therefore, use a sheltered position, e.g., in a sparse shrub [F15] or under a tree.
Bad locations
1.
Direct sunlight
(mosquitoes avoid the sun).
2.
Windy spaces
(winds deter the mosquitoes and affect the suction from the ventilator).
The graphic below [F16] depicts possible locations for the BG-Mosquitaire CO
2
between mosquito breeding spots, mosquito
resting areas, and the house. Please position the trap so that no one can trip over the power cord.
