Reading and writing are important basic skills for coping in our commu-
nication society today.
However the acquisition of these skills in particular can be difficult for
a lot of children. Various studies have shown that there are often great
deficits in this area.
To reach the stage of reading and writing readiness, the child needs to
have hand-eye co-ordination, fine motor skills and the ability to concen
-
trate and these can be trained early with simple exercises.
Even before primary school age, children are starting to learn to read
and write. They first start painting and scribbling and then imitating
writing behaviour. In the development of writing the writing tablets oc-
cupy a place between these preliminary stages and the 1st stage (logo-
graphemic stage) in which individual letters or words are already noted
from memory.
The writing learning tablets offer the possibility even at nursery school
age of practising the hand movements that will be needed for writing
later.
The knob-like learning aids are the simplest to use. They enable even
the smallest child to follow the lines that were milled out in the tablets.
The exercises can be advanced by practising with the pen-like learning
aids because these require a holding position similar to that used later
in writing.
By using the writing learning tablets, the important hand-eye co-ordina
-
tion and fine motor skills for writing and painting are trained in a playful
way.
