Preparation for the game is the same as in the number dice version. For this version, it is
recommended to lay a number line 1-18 written on a strip of paper or white tape over the
three section divisions 1-6 (see page 34). For better understanding, the dice images should
be left uncovered.
Expert version for children from age 6 (addition):
Game preparation
The first player throws all three number dice at the same time. In this variation the players
can decide for themselves whether to count one, two or all three of the dice. Now only
one wooden peg
is removed in each round. In this version, too, players need to adopt a
strategic approach, considering which colours are still missing from the tentacles of Calculi-
no, and the positions where the necessary colours can be obtained.
How to play
Now the player can remove from each section the wooden pegs opposite the numbers
thrown, and insert them in the appropriate colour dots on the tentacles of the octopus.
The colours that are no longer needed by the octopus remain in the perforated bar above
the water surface.
The player who first succeeds in filling the tentacles of the octopus “Calculino“ wins the game.
End of the game
The player has the following options:
Variation 2:
3 + 5 = 8
A wooden
peg is taken
from the
number 8
Variation 1:
3 + 5 + 1 = 9
A wooden
peg is taken
from the
number 9
Variation 4:
5 + 1 = 6
A wooden peg
is taken from
the number 6
Variation 3:
3 + 1 = 4
A wooden peg
is taken from
the number 4
