4 Adding devices to the system
4 Adding devices to the system
The following devices can be added to the AVHS system:
•
Network cameras and video encoders with AVHS firmware:
-
Products with firmware 5.xx often have built-in AVHS support with One-Click Camera Connection, see
Connect and register products with firmware 5.xx
-
Products with firmware 4.xx can be upgraded with AVHS firmware, see
4.2 Upgrade a firmware 4.xx product
•
Network Attached Storage devices with AVHS support
In this document and in the administrator interface, cameras, video encoders and storage devices are referred to collectively
as “devices” except where otherwise indicated.
When a device containing AVHS firmware is connected to the Internet it will first connect to a dispatcher, which is a service
maintained by Axis Communications AB. When registering the device at the AVHS portal, the portal contacts the dispatcher and asks
for the device. If the OAK (see below) is valid for the specified device, and if the AVHS portal is a trusted service provider, the device
will be reconfigured to connect directly to that service provider’s system.
To register a device in the AVHS system you need:
•
The device’s serial number, which can be found on the product label.
•
The device’s Owner Authentication Key (OAK). If the OAK is not included in the package you can obtain an OAK from
the AVHS Helpdesk.
4.1 Connect and register products with firmware 5.xx
Several of Axis network cameras and video encoders with firmware 5.xx have built-in AVHS support with One-Click Camera
Connection. Check the technical specifications (found in the product’s datasheet or User’s Manual) to see if the product includes
AVHS support.
To connect and register an Axis product with AVHS support, follow these steps:
1. Connect the product to the Internet.
2. Press and hold product’s control button until the Status LED indicator flashes green. When the product has been assigned
a DHCP IP address and successfully contacted the dispatcher, the Status LED will flash amber twice. For a list of error
indications, see
6.1 Status LED error indications on page 21
3. Register the product at the AVHS portal. The product’s serial number and Owner Authentication Key are required. The
product can be registered in two different ways:
-
From the user portal
https://<your-host-name>
. To register a product, the user or administrator
must first create a user account.
-
From the administrator interface
https://<your-host-name>/admin
. Log in using the
MASTERADMIN
account and the password that was generated when running the database setup script, see
. In this case the product is added to the system and can later be assigned to any existing user account.
4. Live images from the product should be available within a few seconds.
Note
The product must be registered at the AVHS service within 24 hours of pressing the button.
