Fire or Emergency Exit

The SmartLane Security Entrance Lanes are designed to be installed in conjunction with emergency

systems such as a fire alarm. The most reliable method for opening the moving glass obstacles in an

emergency situation is to shut down the power, as the moving glass obstacles will open through

gravity without any electronic signal involved. However, an electronic input configured in failsafe mode

can also open the moving glass obstacles in an emergency situation. You may select either method for

your emergency opening function.

We strongly urge you to verify that the selected method is

acceptable with your AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction).

If you choose to shut down the power to open the SmartLane Security Entrance Lane in a fire

emergency situation, it is essential that the relay used is not an electronic switch. The power must be

shut down quickly and without slope. Electronic contactors often remove power in a relatively slow

manner to reduce arcing in the contact and EMI. The use of such a device to interface with the

SmartLane Security Entrance Lane is prohibited. Use only mechanical relays with quick transfer

contacts. Refer to the interconnection wiring diagram for more details.
