Lighting of coal
Start in the same way as with wood lighting (see above).
When the last flames are extinguished and there is a nice layer of embers (photo 5), add
approx. 2 kgs of coal. Spread them evenly over the layer of embers.
Close the door and once the fire has a good hold close door completely.
Damper - see adjustment of air damper.
When the flames are clear and stable (6) - close the damper gradually.
The optimal position of the air damper for coal burning is position 3.
NOTE!
If the fire has burned down too low (too small an ember), it may take longer time to get
the fire going again.
When firing the smoke exiting the chimney should be bearly visible (just a flickering).
When refueling, open the door carefully to avoid smoke escaping. Never add wood/coal
before there is a layer of embers.
RAIS recommends to refuel with
• 2-3 pieces wood - approx. 1½-2 kgs - within 60 minutes (intermittent operation).
• approx. 2 kgs of coal within 101 minutes (intermittent operation).
ATTENTION!
Keep an eye on the stove when lighting.
During operation the door should always remain shut.
Control
Look for signs that indicates a correct firing in the stove:
• ash is white
• the walls of the combustion chamber is free of soot
Conclusion:
the wood is sufficiently dry
• Close the door and when the fire has caught the wood (photo 6), close it completely.
• After approx. 5 min. - or when the flames are clear and yellow close the damper
gradually (see ‘Adjustment of air damper’). The optimal position of the damper for
wood burning is between pos. 1 and 2.
