Mirror cleaning
15.1
Required materials
•
Distilled water
•
Detergent (like used for dishwashing by hand)
•
Isopropanol
•
2 spray bottles
•
Kitchen paper rolls
•
Clean cotton cloth for optics or micro fibre
The mirrors can stay inside the telescope for cleaning.
Remove these covers to gain access to the primary mirror:

Put some kitchen paper around the edge of the primary mirror to gather flowing-off liquids.
Put the elevation axis in a horizontal position and fix it with the brake (described in chapter
). Now the mirrors are in a vertical position so that all liquids can flow off the mirror.
If available, use compressed air to remove dust particles from the mirror surface.
Then put distilled water with a small amount of detergent into a spray bottle and spray it onto the mirror. The
surface should be completely wet.
Then put some of the kitchen paper onto the wet surface.
Spray some more distilled water onto it. It needs to contact the complete mirror surface.
Leave it there for a few minutes.
Remove the paper towels by just pulling them off. Do not wipe yet!
