Overview
The C4/c CMTS provides several methods for regulating the flow of packets in the network. These methods include:
Throttling of excessive upstream packets
Monitoring and controlling cable modems (CMs) and Customer Premise Equipment (CPEs) that are generating
excessive packets
Quality of Service (QOS) mechanisms such as traffic shaping which involve delaying packets to slow down the effective
packet transmission rate, while traffic policing intelligently drops packets to induce the source to throttle back the
transmission rate
Enabling support for the upstream peak traffic rate.
