OPERATING PRINCIPAL
The Magnum Hand Winch is a hand operated pulling and lifting device. Being portable it
may also be used for tensioning, lowering and guying.
The instructions contained within this manual are specific to vehicle recovery, as are the
accessories that complement the winch.
NOTE:
If you intend to use the Magnum Hand Winch for lifting it is advised that the
appropriately rated lifting accessories be sourced.
The Magnum hand winch operates on the principal of mechanical advantage. The
telescopic handle, when fitted to either the forward or reversing levers, transmits force to
the clamping mechanism. The pulling force is applied to the wire rope via two pairs of
spring loaded four-link clamping jaws. These jaws work alternately with the motion of
the handle to clamp and slide the wire rope through the mechanism. Due to the angle of
the jaws, as the load increases, so does the clamping force.
In the event that the winch is overloaded, a sheer pin in the forward lever will fail,
allowing no further forward movement. The reversing lever may however still be used to
release the load. Two spare sheer pins are supplied in the carry handle.
