UNPACKING
WE WANT YOUR NEW AMPLIFIER TO LOOK AS GOOD AS IT DID
LEAVING THE FACTORY. PLEASE CHECK PROMPTLY FOR TRANSIT
DAMAGE.
Carefully unpack your new amplifier. In extreme circumstances, items may
have become damaged in transit. If any damage is discovered, notify the
delivery service and/or dealer where the system was purchased. Make a
request for inspection, and follow the instructions for evaluation. Be sure to

ABOUT THX
®
THX
®
and THX Ultra2
™
THX is an exclusive set of standards and technologies established by the
world-renowned film production company, Lucasfilm Ltd. THX grew from
George Lucas' personal desire to make your experience of the film
soundtrack, in both movie theaters and in your home theater, as faithful as
possible to the master recording. Before any home theater component can be
THX Ultra2 certified, it must pass a rigorous series of quality and performance
tests. Only then can a product feature the THX Ultra2 logo, which is your
guarantee that the Home Theater products you purchase will give you superb
performance for many years to come.
Home THX Amplifiers
With today's superior quality, but exceptionally complex audio systems, it is
important to ensure that noise, distortion and frequency response errors are
negligible in all links in the audio chain. With modern discrete multichannel
sources it is especially important that maximum power is instantly available
without instability, rise in distortion or other undesirable side effects. THX
Ultra2 requirements cover every performance aspect of this product including
operation, output power levels, gain, frequency response and numerous other
parameters. Whether you choose music or movies, multichannel or stereo, this
amplifier will be supremely flexible, easy to use, sonically transparent and
absolutely reliable.
CONTROLS AND FUNCTIONS
Power Switch
This rocker switch turns the AC power ON (depressed top) and OFF
(depressed bottom).
Power Indicator
This LED will illuminate when the 3000 series amplifier is powered ON.
RCA/XLR Input Selection Switch
This switch is used to select the single-ended RCA or balanced XLR input jack
for each individual channel. Any combination of single-ended and balanced
inputs may be used, but only one type of input can be used for each channel.
Single-ended selection is to the outside (3002) or up (3005) and balanced
selection is to the inside (3002) or down (3005).
RCA Single-ended Input Jack
A gold-plated RCA input jack is provided for each channel to connect to the
output jack of the corresponding preamplifier channel. Switch the input’s
selection switch to the outside (3002) or up (3005) for each channel using the
RCA input.
XLR Balanced Input Jack
A balanced XLR input jack is provided for each channel to connect to the
balanced output jack of the corresponding preamplifier channel. Switch the
input selection switch to the inside (3002) or down (3005) for each channel
using the XLR input.
Five-way Binding Post Speaker Output
Two sets of five-way binding posts are provided for each channel to connect to
the corresponding loudspeaker. The red connection corresponds to the
positive (+) input of the loudspeaker, and the black connection corresponds to
the negative (–) input of the loudspeaker.
Dimmer Switch
The three-position switch controls the intensity of the blue cascade panel
illumination. FULL brightness is all the way to the right; OFF is in the center;
and DIM is all the way to the left. The power switch must be ON for
illumination.
A/C Power Connection
This three-prong receptacle is the A/C power connection, utilizing a standard
IEC connector.
A/C Fuse Holder
This contains the primary A/C fuse. Replace only with the same value and
rating as specified on the back of the amp.
SYSTEM SETUP
1. Input Connections
With the amplifier turned off, connect shielded RCA or XLR cables between
the preamplifier outputs and the corresponding amplifier inputs. Due to the
internal architecture of the amplifier, it is important that you follow the
naming conventions on the rear panel. (For example, the "Left Surround"
and "Right Surround" outputs of the preamplifier should be connected to
"Surround Left" and "Surround Right" inputs of the amplifier.)
2. Output Connections
With the amplifier turned off, connect speaker wire between the amplifier’s
speaker output terminal and the loudspeaker’s corresponding input terminal.
The red connector refers to the positive (+) speaker connection, and the
black connector refers to the negative (–) speaker connection. For proper
operation, be sure to connect the loudspeaker to the correct amp output.
Either set of binding posts may be used or both sets may be used for
bi-wiring.
NOTE:
Use only insulated speaker wire of an appropriate gauge
for all connections making sure that no bare wires touch each other. Use of
uninsulated wiring, or conditions where bare wires are touching could result
in an electrical short leading to possible risk of electrical shock, equipment
failure or the risk of fire.
3. Power Connection
Plug the A/C power cord into the back of your 3000 series amplifier, and
then into the A/C wall outlet.
TROUBLESHOOTING
No Sound
1. Ensure the A/C power cord is fully seated.
2. With the amplifier unplugged, check that the A/C fuse is not blown.
3. Check all power connections.
4. Verify proper connection of inputs and outputs.
5. Verify the correct setting of the RCA/XLR input selection switch.
