1.  GENERAL INFORMATION

1.1  GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The AR RF/Microwave Instrumentation Model ATH26G40A-1 Low-Gain Horn Antenna (wide beam width)

is a complete, self-contained unit that is well-suited for either shielded room or free-space radiated emissions

or radiated susceptibility testing over a frequency range of 26.5–40 GHz.  The Model ATH26G40A-1 has a

power-handling capability of 240 watts (W) with a minimum gain of 9dB at 26.5 GHz, increasing linearly to

12.1dB at 40 GHz.

This versatile antenna works equally well as a radiator for Radio Frequency (RF) susceptibility testing or as a

receiving antenna for RF emissions testing.

1.2  SPECIFICATIONS

Refer to the AR  RF/Microwave Instrumentation  Data Sheet at the end of this section  for detailed

specifications, including Gain, Beamwidth, E-Field levels and Voltage Standing-Wave Ratio (VSWR) for the

Model ATH26G40A-1.

1.3  INSTALLATION

Before installing the antenna, thoroughly inspect the unit for signs of any physical damage that may have

occurred during shipment.  Read the following operating instructions in their entirety, and pay particular

attention to all caution notes.

1.3.1

Connections

Waveguide losses, especially at the lower and higher frequencies, can be minimized by utilizing low-loss

waveguide.  The waveguide should be terminated with a WR-28 waveguide connector in order to mate with

the WR-28 waveguide connector provided on the antenna.

1.3.2

Power Amplifier Selection

When used in a shielded room, reflections and room losses will reduce the available microwave (MW) field.

AR RF/Microwave Instrumentation recommends a design safety factor of 100% when selecting a MW power

amplifier.  Optimum performance will be achieved when the Model ATH26G40A-1 High-Gain Horn Antenna

is used with a broadband MW power amplifier, such as the Model 25T26G40, Model 40T26G40, and other

“T” Series MW Traveling Wave Tube (TWT) amplifiers available from AR RF/Microwave Instrumentation.
