SSB Phase Noise Test

This section contains two different procedures depending on what test equipment is available:

•

“Procedure Using Agilent Equipment”

•

“Procedure Using AeroFlex Equipment”

Procedure Using Agilent Equipment

This section contains instructions to perform a SSB phase noise test using the Agilent E5052B Signal Source 
Analyzer and E5053A Down Converter. For the following test, refer to the test record table in

Appendix A

, 

“Section 3-8 SSB Phase Noise Test: Agilent Test Equipment”

Required Equipment

MG3702xA Test Setup  

The MG3702xA is setup as follows:

1. 

Preset the instrument by pressing 

Preset

. The CW menu is displayed. 

2. 

Press 

Edit Frequency

 to open the current frequency parameter for editing. 

3. 

Set F0 to the CW frequency indicated in 

Appendix A

,

4. 

Press 

Edit Level

 to open the current power level parameter for editing. Set 

L0

 to +10 dBm or the 

maximum leveled power of the instrument, whichever is lower.

5. 

Connect the MG3702xA as shown in 

Figure 3-3 on page 3-12

Connect the output of the MG3702xA to the input of the splitter.

b.

Connect one of the outputs of the splitter to the RF input of the E5052B 

c.

Connect one of the outputs of the splitter to the RF input of the down converter.

The MG3702xA, E5052B and the E5053A Down converter must be powered on for a minimum of 
30 minutes before performing these measurements. The E5052B and E5053A must be installed and 
set up according to the instructions supplied with the instruments before continuing with this 
procedure.

Note

If you are not using the splitter, reduce L0 power level to +8 dBm.
