FOR LONG FLAT-EDGED TOOLS
RULE OF THUMB:
Follow the steps described on the previous page
while GRADUALLY & EVENLY moving/gliding
the tool’s edge from RIGHT to LEFT under the disc.
You may stop anytime by simply lowering the tool
as described previously in STEP 3.
AVOID “TEETER-TOTTERING” THE TOOL ON THE DISC!
DO NOT SLIDE TOOL OFF THE EDGE OF THE DISC!
FOR ROUNDED ANGLES/BEVELS:
RULE OF THUMB:
The same steps apply as stated previously.
Keep the edge held against the abrasive.
Then, in a GRADUAL (LEFT to RIGHT )
MOTION, slowly FOLLOW the ROUND surface
of the tool by twisting it or moving the handle.
For lathe gouges with a fingernail shape:
Move the handle of the tool like a pendulum.
