Dear customers, thank you for purchasing AMTRA CO2 SYSTEM, specific set for adding CO2 into aquarium to promote plant photosynthesis and so the general well-
being of the aquarium ecosystem.
Overview
AMTRA CO2 SYSTEM contains: disposable CO2 cylinder 500 gr. with connection thread M10X1 (FIG.A N°2), CO2 pressure reducer with connection thread M10X1 (FIG.A
N°1), 3 meters of specific CO2 Polyurethane hose diameter 3,5X5mm (FIG.A N°3), bubble counter for determining the CO2 to be added (FIG.A N°4), specific micronizer
to have very fine bubbles of CO2 in water (FIG.A N°5).
Safety rules for carbon dioxide (CO2) cylinders
• Use only to supply CO2 to aquaria.
• CO2 cylinders are highly pressurized. Therefore, do not throw CO2 cylinders.
•Store in a cool place. Protect from sun and temperatures above 50°C.
• Cylinders must always be in an upright position when supplying CO2. Secure cylinders to prevent them from falling over.
• Do not open CO2 cylinders by force.
• CO2 gas is heavier than air and has a suffocating effect in high concentrations. Avoid breathing in CO2 gas. Keep out of reach of children.
• Store CO2 cylinders in well ventilated areas and not in cellars.
• Please note the following when transporting individual cylinders in vehicles: Secure to prevent from sliding and rolling around, as the valve may otherwise incur
damage and CO2 gas may escape.
Installation
•Remove the rubber protection on the top of the cylinder. (FIG.B)
•Turn setting knob as far as it will go into “-” (CO2 supply shut off).
•Screw pressure reducer slowly into place without canting, until a slight resistance becomes noticeable: This indicates that the pin in the connection socket of the
pressure reducer has established contact with the cylinder valve. Then swiftly turn the pressure reducer by roughly a further half-turn and tighten finger-tight. A brief
hiss may occur at this point. Screw the reducer to the cylinder with the sole force of the hands without using tools.
•The pressure reducer can be unscrewed again at any time because the cylinder valve closes automatically. A brief hissing sound may also occur when unscrewing
the pressure reducer.
•Choose the position of the bubble counter that must be kept vertically in an area that is easy to consult (eg the side wall of the aquarium). Cut the hose to size and
connect it to the pressure reducer on the “BOTTOM” side. (FIG.C)
•Fill the bubble counter with water for about three quarters and close it well. (FIG.C)
•Now connect the CO2 diffuser to the “TOP” part of the bubble counter, cutting the tube to size if necessary, bearing in mind that the same must be placed in the
aquarium in an area of strong water movement to improve the diffusion of CO2 in the aquarium (for example under the water outlet of the filter pump: the best result
will be where the column of micro bubbles produced by the diffuser are hit by the flow of water exiting the pump).
Setting the amount of CO2
For a good plant growth AMTRA recommends a CO2 levels in aquarium of approx.. 25mg/l. This value can be identified in (FIG.D) starting from the pH and dKH
values of the aquarium water (T 25 ° C). The required number of bubbles is dependent on various factors, such as the stock of plants, water movement and lighting
intensity. Initially you can start with about 10 bubbles per minute for every 100 l of water, for example for a 50 l aquarium with 5 bubbles per minute or in a 300 l
tank with 30 bubbles per minute. Increasing or reducing the amount of CO2 bubbles is very simple thanks to the adjustment knob: keep in mind that the system
works under pressure so every time you operate the knob, it takes a few minutes before the dispensing is completely settled! Then measure the number of bubbles
after 5-10 minutes that you have acted on the knob. During the first days, check the number of bubbles more often and adjust it better if necessary. Then it will be
sufficient to check the number of bubbles once a week. During CO2 adjustment operations, always supervise the system in order to avoid releasing excessive CO2 into
the aquarium which could be harmful to Fish and Bacteria.
Use & Care
•The AMTRA CO2 SYSTEM is virtually maintenance-free.
•When finished please replace the cylinder with original AMTRA spare parts
•Do not use for food use!!
•The pressure reducer can be connected using a suitable adapter to refillable cylinder with a maximum pressure of 120 bar!

Cleaning and recalibrating the needle valve (FIG.E)
There is a factory-calibrated needle valve in the hose connector of the pressure reducer. If no CO2 be supplied with the cylinder full and the setting valve completly
opened, the needle valve is probably blocked. In this case open the valve by turning by ½ turn in anti-clockwise direction using a fine screwdriver (blade format
2 – 2.5 x 0.5 mm), then “”flush”” with CO2 for a few seconds with the setting knob in fully open position.
Important: Do not unscrew valve completely!
Close
valve again by ½ turn. The valve is factory-set to approx. 120 bubbles / minute when the setting knob is in fully open position. If necessary, it can be recalibrated by
carefully screwing it in or out in steps of approx. 1/8 of a turn.
