5.5 Standby mode
Comply with the following instructions regarding the standby mode:

If the instrument has been down for an extensive period (weekends, vacation
shutdown), the X-ray tube must be run under standby conditions for at least
20 minutes. Start measuring only after this period.

If the instrument has been down for an extensive period ( > 1 month), the X-
ray tube must be run under standby conditions for at least 1 hour. Start
measuring only after this period.

To activate/deactivate the standby mode, click on the symbol on the task
bar at bottom right. This symbol can be used to either “activate” or
“deactivate” the standby mode.

Recalibrate the instrument (see Chapter 6.2).

Measure a reference sample.
5.6 Carrying out the measurement
Caution! Risk of crushing injuries!
When closing the sample chamber lid, there is an inherent risk of crushing injuries.

When closing the sample chamber lid keep the fingers out of the sample
chamber.
Caution! Risk of injury due to laser radiation!
The instrument uses a laser pointer of protection class II. Your eyes will suffer
damage if you look at this laser pointer for an extended period of time.

Therefore never look directly at the laser pointer.
