INSTALLATION 

MP168 Video Switcher/Controller System 

 

 

Star Configuration 

A star configuration refers to hardwiring one 
Manchester output to a Control Code distribution unit 
(see Figure 2-5).  A typical Control Code distribution 
device expands the number of Receiver/Driver Units 
(RDUs) on one code line to 64 RDUs. 
 
In a star configuration, one AD Manchester Control 
Code line connects one Control Code Distributor to the 
Control Code Module.  The MP168 Bay considers this 
connection a “group” of Receiver/Driver Units. 
 
For addressing purposes, group connections to the 
Control Code module should be planned as follows: 

Manchester output number 1 (the upper most 
port) is for RDU numbers 1 through 64. 

Manchester output 2 (the center port) is for RDU 
numbers 65 through 128. 

Manchester output 3 (the lower port) is for RDU 
numbers 129 through 192. 

 
Each unit must be terminated with a 120-ohm resistor 
that provides a low impedance termination between the 
module and the code distribution unit.
