Service manual AlphaCom XL transceiver Rev. 1.4 10-08-2011
Blz. 41/74
Settings Serial port 2
The second serial port can also be used for various applications including the transparent serial connection
over IP.
Serial port 2 can be also be used to connect a serial logprinter from various types of control panels (for
instance Galaxy and Thor). In this way, many control panels can be connected serially to the AlphaCom XL.
Establishing a serial connection can be performed by following actions:
connect a serial cable between a control panel serial logprinter output and RS-232 port2 (see
page 18
and 19
for details)
set the function / protocol of RS-232 port 2 to „Galaxy‟ (Universal logprinter protocol)
enable event logging at the control panel to the logprinter
Every event, that is received from the logprinter, will be transmitted transparently to the control station using
the SIA-HS over IP data protocol. An event can be transmitted if the „logline‟ from the printer port of the
control panel ends with a <LF> character (line-feed, ASCII character with hexadecimal value 0x0a). Each
logline should also contain a time indication (e.g. 12:30). When a logline is received at the AlphaCom XL, it
is checked to contain a colon (:) and at the left and right side of that column 2 digits. If the mentioned
requirements are met, then the logline will be transmitted to the control station. If not, then the received
information will be dropped without notice.
Take care: some control panels need to activate the logprinter option via a function on the keypad before
events will be transmitted serially. In that case always check if the logprinter function works after a restart of
the control panel.
The way the above mentioned application works is stated in a separate document and can be obtained from
the Alphatronics helpdesk.
Settings Serial port 3
The third serial port is a RS-485 bus. In the default settings this function is „disabled‟. By programming this
port to „
AlphaVision
‟ and connecting it to the RS-485 bus of the AlphaVision control panel the AlphaCom
XL will be seen as a AlphaCom ISDN or AlphaCom IP device on the RS-485 bus with the exception that
there is no up/download capabilities.
When the AlphaCom XL is connected to the RS-485 bus of the AlphaVision control panel, the following
settings must also be made:
