Hot Swapping a Fan Tray
As stated previously, the fan trays are the main temperature control component of the switch. As a result,
a fan tray should never be removed while the switch is operating unless it is absolutely necessary
.
However, if a fan tray requires immediate replacement or service, the fan tray can be hot swapped—i.e., it
can be changed out without shutting off the switch.
Important.
Hot swapping a fan tray is a time-sensitive procedure.
If the fan tray is removed, it must be
replaced within approximately five minutes
(in most cases). Otherwise, overheating will occur, which can
lead to system failure.
For instructions on properly removing and installing a front fan tray, refer to
“Installing a New Front Fan Tray” on page 2-32
. For instructions on properly
removing and installing a rear fan tray, refer to pages
“Installing a New Front Fan Tray” on page 2-32
and
“Installing the New Back Fan Tray” on page 2-34
.
Removing a Front Fan Tray
1
Begin by turning both locking levers (latches) one-quarter turn counterclockwise.
2
Pull the fan tray straight out and away from the switch.
