VOX Operation
VOX (voice operated transmit) operation allows you to transmit without using the PTT button.
This feature is mainly used when you have no hand free for pressing the PTT button or as
baby monitor. For speech transmission, use of a headset is recommended. The headset
must be suitable for VOX operation (in most cases such headsets have a switch VOX-PTT).
To enable VOX operation:
•
Press
MENU
several times until the icon
VOX
will appear and a number will flash
•
0
means that VOX is not activated (PTT operation), while 1, 2 or 3 show that VOX is
activated.
•
Select the desired sensitivity level between
1
,
2
and
3
(see next clause)
•
Press
MENU
or
PTT
to save settings and exit.
If you should use a headset:
•
Program the radio to VOX operation
before
connecting the headset to the radio.
•
Open the SPK/MIC cover on right side of the radio.
•
Insert the headset plug(s) into the SPK/MIC jacks.
•
If you should have a headset with VOX switch, select VOX position
Note
: The VOX level must be set properly for correct VOX operation
VOX sensitivity level setup
The radio has three selectable VOX sensitivity levels. The VOX level should be adjusted so
that your voice causes the radio to transmit, but environmental noise does not. To set the
VOX level:
•
With the radio on, repeatedly press
MENU
until VOX appears. The current VOX
setting will begin to flash.
•
Press
UP
or
DOWN
to change the VOX level from
0
(off) to
3
(maximum).
•
Press
MENU
or the
PTT
button to save the selected level setting and exit the menus.
Note:
Selecting level 0 will disable VOX operation without regard to the VOX switch setting
on the headset. If such a headset should remain plugged in, it must be switched back to
normal PTT-operation, too. A headset which is suitable only for VOX, must be unplugged
before the radio is reset to normal PTT operation. It is not allowed to let VOX-only headsets
connected during PTT operation, because the transmitter can continuously stay on in that
case!
External Speaker/Microphone
Your radio can be used with an optional external speaker/microphone or headset, freeing
your hands for other tasks. To use an optional speaker/microphone or headset:
•
Open the SPK/MIC cover on right side of the radio.
•
Insert the plug(s) into the SPK/MIC jacks. The smaller 2.5 mm socket is for MIC (or
wall charger) while the larger 3.5 mm socket is for speaker / earphone. We
recommend to use only ALAN / Albrecht accessory items.
Intercom
Optional intercom accessories (e.g. MHS 303) allow the radio to operate as an intercom
system
between driver and pillion
on motor bikes.
•
Open the INT cover on top of the radio.
•
Insert the appropriate plug into the INT jack.
