3.6. Interconnection
The arrangement of the front panel connectors of the SMC2000C01 module is shown in
the following figure.

The two RJ-45 connectors labeled PORT 1 and PORT 2 are electrical interfaces for
connection to 10Base-T, 100Base-T or 1000Base-T local area networks (LANs) as per IEEE
std 802.3. The receptacle labeled OPTICAL PORT is for the installation of an SFP module
and allows connection to 1000Base-SX, 1000Base-LX or 1000Base-CX LANs as per IEEE
std 802.3.
The front panel has not been designed to support mechanical stress. All cabling in the
rack where the mounting frame is located should be properly supported so that the front
panel does not provide mechanical support.
3.6.1. Connecting to the electrical ports
Connections to the electrical ports are made with RJ-45 connectors. The cabling used
should be UTP Category 5 or better (Cat 5e o Cat 6) in order to guarantee proper
operation at 1Gbit/s.
