5. GLOSSARY
AIS
Alarm Indication Signal. Signal generated by certain equipment that uses ITU-T G.703
signals when a failure is detected. The standard is defined by ITU T G.775.
DVB-ASI
Asynchronous Serial Interface. An asynchronous serial interface for DVB streams that is
one of the principal formats for transmission of MPEG-2 streams over cable.
GPI
General Purpose Input. This is a signaling and control interface that receives
information through detection of the open or closed status of an external circuit. The
information is received from a device at the other end of the line, typically employing a
GPO interface.
GPO
General Purpose Output. This is a signaling and control interface that transmits
information via closure of a contact. A GPI input is typically used at the other end of the
line.
LOS
Loss of Signal. Indication of a loss of signal. The format for generation of this failure for
ITU-T G.703 signals is defined by the ITU-T G.775 standard.
