16.  Guide the center mount onto the tabs on the rear of the center mount. Slide the center mount down until it 

contacts the bottom of the tab. 

17.  Position the center mount guard slots over the center mount holes

. Use the 5/16” button head screws and 

contact lock washer to secure center mount to the bearing mounts. 
 
 
 

1. 

Raise the center drum on the header as high as it will go, with the header tilted back, 
and check for clearance between the auger and the drum fingers. 

2. 

Adjust  the  auger  accordingly  to  have  clearance  between  the  auger  flighting  and 
paddle vs. the drum and fingers.

 

 

 
 

4.1.  MACDON 974 INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS 

Refer to the Direct drive fasten to motor page for mounting the motor to the drive hub. On a 974 header the drive end 
is on the opposite side as the FD1 series. It is critical that the ¼” bolt is used to hold the drive hub to the motor shaft.
