PCL-843 User's Manual
This Appendix explains how to set up a network so that a workstation
can boot from remote boot image files stored on a file server rather
than from a boot diskette or hard drive located in the workstations
local drive. This means a workstation relies on a PROM installed on
its network board to communicate with the file server when power is
applied. The remote file server will then run the remote boot image
files located in that server's SYS.LOGIN directory.
Here is a brief description for the boot ROM installation:
Installing quick boot ROM
1. The first stage is to configure the card's jumpers and hardware.
A. Insert the quick boot ROM on the network board socket.
B. Adjust jumpers on the network board to set the auto-boot
ROM address. (default setting please refer to page 10 )
NOTE: If the boot ROM is on a jumperless board, run the setup
utility to set the auto-boot PROM address.
2. Remote booting procedures
You may find it useful to refer to Novell NetWare 386 Installation
Appendix D : "Using DOSGEN to Add Remote Reset". Before starting
to create an image file, the user has to make a bootable diskette:
A. Format a floppy diskette using DOS FORMAT command by
typing:
FORMAT a:/s <enter>
B. Copy the required files to the bootable diskette using the DOS
COPY command
After the above is completed, the user may carry out the following
procedures according to single or multiple remote boot image files as
follows:
