When flying fast into very turbulent air first fully release the speed bar,
before applying the brake you will need to control the wing. The
EPSILON 6’s high stability allows it to be flown through light turbulence
in accelerated configuration. In this case active speed bar should be
used to control the angle of attack – instead of using the brakes:
•
When the angle of attack increases (wing goes back) briefly
increase speed bar
•
When the angle of attack reduces (wing goes forward) re-
lease the speed bar
As a result, pitching disturbances can be minimised, and good
gliding performance maintained. For more about accelerated flight
see section «Speed system with SPI».
Caution: even though the EPSILON 6 is very stable in accele-
rated flight you should only apply as much speed bar as you
feel happy with.
Tip: Make sure that brake is not applied at the same time as
speed bar, otherwise you will find yourself in the worst pos-
sible gliding situation, without gaining any advantage.
can be increased, stabilised or reduced by brake line pressure
adjustment at all times.
When flying in thermals choose your desired bank angle and circling
radius, and try to let the paraglider turn steadily in this attitude. Out-
side brake should be used to steady the outside wingtip and, in
particular, keep control of the rate of turn.
A harness that is well suited to EPSILON 6 flying behaviour will greatly
help you set up and maintain the most consistent of circles. See also
section «Suitable harnesses».
Tip: If a brake line should break you can control your
EPSILON 6 with the rear risers (D-risers).
Accelerated flight
The EPSILON 6 wing remains extremely stable even in accelerated
flight. However, paragliders operate at a lower angle of attack while
flying at their higher speeds, and the degree of stability is generally
reduced. The higher aerodynamic forces involved at higher airspeeds
mean that a collapse can be more dynamic. See also section
«Collapses».
