Total Access 1000 RT. When deployment requires the
HDSL Repeater (HRE), this ICOT can also be
deployed with one HRE and a Total Access 1000 RT.

Architecture

The DS1 or DSX-1 input signal to the ICOT is
supplied from the network.  The HDSL signals are
provided to the local loop.

The ICOT terminates a DSX-1 network-side interface
from the COT or switch and converts the DSX-1
signal to 4-wire HDSL and adds span powering.  The
HDSL signal is delivered over two twisted copper
pairs to the Total Access 1000 RT system where the
HDSL signal is converted into 24 POTS services.

Provisioning, test access, and performance monitoring
for the ICOT are accessed through the DB-9 craft
interface port.

The Total Access 1000 RT system is comprised of an
outside plant (OSP) housing, HDSL Line Interface
Unit (HLIU), Power Supply Unit/Ring Generator
(PSU/RG), Bank Controller Unit (BCU), and POTS or
ISDN access modules.  Refer to the Total Access 1000
RT Installation and Maintenance Practice, P/N
61179001L1-5, for more information regarding these
units.

The HLIU card provides the network interface for the
Total Access 1000 RT system.  The HLIU passes span
power to the PSU/RG, and the PSU/RG terminates the
span power from the network and provides regulated
operating  voltages to all components within the Total
Access 1000 RT system.  Also, the HLIU terminates
the HDSL signal, converts it to a DSX-1 level signal,
and passes it to the BCU.  The BCU terminates the
DS0 level signals to the POTS cards.  The BCU
provides the remote access point for provisioning,
testing, and monitoring system performance.  The

BCU and the HLIU VT100 terminal screens can be
accessed at the network end of the HDSL loops via
the DB-9 craft interface port on the ICOT faceplate.

The Total Access 1000 RT system can be deployed in
an integrated DLC configuration (

Figure 2

)  or a

universal DLC configuration (

Figure 3

).  When used

in the IDLC mode, a switch provides a DSX-1 to the
ICOT, the ICOT converts the DSX-1 to HDSL and
adds span powering.  The Total Access 1000 RT
terminates the HDSL and span powering, converts the
HDSL to DSX-1, and provides up to 24 subscriber
interfaces. In the UDLC configuration, the Total
Access 1000 RT interoperates with the Total Access
1500 COT.  The Total Access 1500 COT provides the
twenty-four 2-wire interfaces to the switch and, in
turn, provides the DSX-1 interface to the ICOT.

The ICOT contains an onboard fuse.  If the fuse
opens, it supplies a -48 VDC voltage to the fuse alarm
bus and all faceplate indicators will be Off.  This fuse
is not designed to be replaced in the field.

The 3192 ICOT uses a DC-to-DC converter to derive
its internal logic  and span  powering voltages from
the -48 VDC office supply.  The 3192 ICOT can
span-power up to one HRE and Total Access 1000 RT
as listed above.  Span-powering voltages meet all
requirements of Class A2 voltages as specified by
Bellcore GR-1089-CORE.

2. INSTALLATION

After unpacking the unit, inspect it for damage. If
damage is noted, file a claim with the carrier, and then
contact ADTRAN.  Refer to
