7.7.2 Directional Response
The directional characteristic of a microphone is a measure of its differing sensitivity for sound waves arriving from
various angles. Since the pre-polarised condenser microphone used in Ngara is a pressure sensitive type, it should be
equal in all directions. However, refraction and cavity effects cause a certain microphone directional response at high
frequencies.
Figure 43 shows the directional response for the UC-53A microphone.

7.7.3 Thermal Characteristics
The thermal characteristics of a microphone include indicate how sensitivity changes at various temperatures. This
is influenced by the choice of materials and the design of microphone. Normally materials with a linear expansion
coefficient are used.
Figure 44 shows the thermal characteristics of a UC-53A microphone at 250Hz.
