Getting a Blood Drop and Testing

Consult your veterinary doctor to get recommendations for the best sampling
method and information on preferred puncture site.
To obtain a capillary blood sample you can choose the following sites:

The ear - all species
•
Paw (cats and dogs)
•
Leg callus (dogs)
•
Inner lip (dogs)
2.
Pull the cocking barrel back to set the lancing device. You may hear a click;
to indicate the lancing device is now loaded and ready for obtaining a drop of
blood.
3.
Press the lancing device against the puncture site to be lanced with the cover
resting on the site. Push the release button to prick puncture site. You should
hear a click as the lancing device activates.
4.
Gently massage from the base of the puncture site to obtain the required
blood volume. Avoid smearing the drop of blood. Test immediately after a
good blood drop has formed.
