7.14 Wire Termination:

a. Attach 4041 Splice Head to 4044 Frame

Adapter.  Snap adapter legs into diamond-
shaped cutouts in bracket.

Note:

Gold adapter must be placed in splice head
before splicing.

b. Place modular connector base onto splicing

head.  The cut corner of the base should be on
the left-hand side and rear of the splicing head.

c. Select entrance cable binder group and lay

into base by color code.  Check conductor
order with check comb.  Select matching
binder group from preconnectorized short
stub.  Place body/cover on top of base,
matching the cut corners.

d. Crimp connector using the 4030, 4031 or 4036

crimping unit.

e. To terminate a 4187 Extension Stub onto the

preconnectorized short stub, use either a 4255
Hand Presser or an MS

2

 Splicing Head.

f. To terminate extension stub to preconnectorized

short stub using the 4255 Hand Presser, refer to
the 4255 Hand Presser Instruction Bulletin.

g. To terminate extension stub to preconnectorized

short stub using the MS

2

 Splicing Head, remove

the three screws, color-coded wire guides and
blue pair separator from splicing head.

Note:

Gold adapter is not used in this
application.

8.0 Multiple Terminal Installation

8.01 Vertical Stacking

The design of the integral splice chamber and
grooved clamp halves to and from that chamber,
enables up to three PETs of same pair count to
be stacked vertically (dependent on cable
diameter).  Vertical stacking is used when the
entrance cable pair count is greater than the
capacity of a single PET or when the installation
design requires that only a portion of entrance
cable pairs be initially terminated.

7.15 After termination is complete, neatly bundle wire

and modular connectors and lay in splice
chamber.  Close chamber door and secure
with screws supplied or any #8-32 screw
1/4" - 1/2" (6 mm - 13 mm) long to meet UL
requirements.

7.16 Scotchlok

TM

UR and UY Connectors may be

substituted for the modular connectors on the
preconnectorized short stub.  Use Scotchlok
E-9 Series Tools for proper crimping of
connectors.

i. Crimp connector using the 4030, 4031 or 4036

crimping unit.

j. For wire termination onto the

preconnectorized 710-type connector short
stub, refer to Bell System practice, section
632-205-220.

k. Remove clamp from traverse bar assembly

and mount traverse bar 3" (76 mm) from PET
with two #12 wood screws (not supplied).

4

7.13 After positioning PST as close as possible to

terminal side, continue core removal to collapse
PST over clamp halves.  Complete core removal.

h. Place extension stub into splicing head.  Place

short stub with corresponding binder group on
top.  Use green base retainer posts for
alignment.
