Private NNI
A NNI is a
private
NNI (P-NNI) when the switches are not part of a WAN.
P-NNI allows you to interconnect multiple switches in an arbitrary
topology and still have them work as one network. See Figure 10.

For an ATM switch to work in an ATM network, the switch must have a
topology database and a routing engine. The topology database reflects
the network topology (the number of ATM switches, their addresses, and
their locations). The database may be static or dynamic. A static database
does not reflect on-line topology changes, whereas the dynamic database
automatically senses changes in the network topology. The ATM switch
determines the best path/route to a destination according to the topology
database, using the routing engine.
