RECOMMENDED FIRE ALARM LOCATIONS
In
the
United
States,
this
equipment
shall
be
installed
in
accordance
with
the
National
Fire
Alarm
Code,
ANSI/NFPA
72
,
(National
Fire
Protection
Association,
Batterymarch
Park,
Quincy,
MA
02269).
Printed
information
describing
proper
installation,
operation,
testing,
maintenance,
evacuation
planning,
and
repair
service
is
to
be
provided
with
smoke
detectors
and
alarms.
NFPA Standard #72
The
National
Fire
Protection
Association’s
(NFPA)
Standard
#72
recommends
the
following
placement
for
smoke
detectors:
Early
warning
fire
detection
is
best
achieved
by
the
installation
of
fire
detection
equipment
in
all
rooms
and
areas
of
the
household.
The
equipment
should
be
installed
as
follows:
•
Install
a
smoke
detector
outside
each
separate
sleeping
area,
in
the
immediate
vicinity
of
the
bedrooms
and
on
each
additional
story
of
the
family
living
unit,
including
basements
and
excluding
crawl
spaces
and
unfinished
attics.
Also
install
smoke
detectors
in
the
living
room,
dining
room,
bedrooms,
kitchen,
hallway(s),
finished
attics,
furnace
room,
utility
and
storage
rooms,
and
attached
garages.

A smoke alarm should be located between the sleeping
area and the rest of the family living unit.

each sleeping area.
