Features
Switchable sound pickup modes
Stereo mode:
For capturing natural sound quality with excellent
localization using the MS (Mid-Side) system.
Monaural mode:
For capturing highly directional sound within a narrow
range.
Compact and lightweight
Owing to its small dimensions of 20 dia. × 250 mm and weight of 105 g, the
microphone can be used and carried easily.
LOW CUT switch which cuts unnecessary low frequency
The low cut filter reduces the noise occurring due to wind or vibration.
External power supply
The microphone can be powered on an external power supply of 40 V to
52 V DC.

Notes
If power to the R channel is cut while the ST/MONO switch is set to
“ST,” the microphone changes to monaural mode.
Noise may occur when the sound pickup mode is switched.
When the microphone is connected to the HDW-F900R, HDW-790, or
the PDW-F350/F330 professional camcorder, monaural mode can be
selected through a menu operation on the camcorder.

STEREO indicator
Lights up when the microphone is set to stereo mode; however, turns off
when power from the external device to the R channel is cut.
Output connector (XLR-5-12C type)
This connector transmits the sound pickup from the microphone to the
external device and supplies power to the microphone from the external
device.

When attaching the microphone to a video camera using a microphone
holder (the one mounted on the camera or optional), attach the spacer
to the grip of the microphone.
Wind screen
Attach to the microphone
to reduce wind or breathing noise. After
attaching to the microphone so that the bottom part of the wind screen
covers the SONY logo on the microphone, hold the microphone by
the bottom part of the wind screen and fasten the ring
to secure the
wind screen to the microphone.
Microphone holder
When using a microphone stand (not supplied), attach the holder to
the microphone. When the angle adjustment screw has become loose,
tighten it with a coin.
Connecting cord
Used to connect the output connector
to the input connector on an
external device such as a camcorder (cable length: 380 mm).
Attaching to a Video Camera (Fig.
)
When attaching the microphone to a video camera using a microphone holder
(not supplied), attach the supplied microphone spacer (molded type)
-a
to the microphone (
). If vibration from the camcorder is of concern, use
the microphone spacer (molded type)
-b instead. Remove the two release
sheets (
) and wrap the spacer around the microphone grip (
).
Attach the microphone to the holder so that the “UP” mark on the
microphone faces upward to obtain correct directivity.
Power Supply
This microphone is powered only from an external power supply. Use the
connecting cord
to connect the output connector
to the microphone
input connector (XLR-type, 5-pin) on the camcorder. If you are using an
optional 5-pin to 3-pin x2 conversion cable (available in the near future),
you can connect the microphone to a device that has no XLR-type, 5-pin
input connector, such as an AC power supply unit, an audio mixer, or a video
camera.
Notes
Before connecting the microphone to a camcorder, check that the camcorder
is equipped with the +48 V microphone input connector.
An unbalanced cable cannot be connected to this microphone.
Be sure to
use a balanced microphone cable.
Sound Pickup Mode
The sound pickup mode is determined by the following conditions, as shown
in the table below.
By the front microphone sound pickup mode set by menu operation on the
camcorder (when the microphone is connected to an HDW-F900R,
HDW-790, or PDW-F350/F330 professional camcorder) or by the status of
the power supply to the L and R channels of the microphone (when the
microphone is connected to another type of device)

Notes on Use
Microphones are delicate. Do not drop or subject it to excessive shock.
Avoid extended usage or storage in high humidity or temperatures above
60 °C (140 °F).
If acoustic feedback occurs during use (a howling sound is heard from the
speakers), point the microphone away from the speakers or increase the
distance between the microphone and the speakers.

Remarques
Si l’alimentation du canal R est coupée lorsque le commutateur ST/
MONO est réglé sur « ST », le microphone passera au mode monaural.

Indicateur STEREO

Quand vous montez le microphone sur une caméra vidéo à l’aide du
support de microphone (celui monté sur la caméra ou en option), fixez la
bague sur la poignée du microphone.
Bonnette anti-vent
Mettez-la sur le microphone
pour réduire le bruit du vent ou de la
respiration. Après le montage du microphone de sorte que le dessous de la
bonnette anti-vent
couvre le logo SONY sur le microphone, maintenez
le microphone par le dessous de la bonnette anti-vent et serrez la bague
pour fixer la bonnette anti-vent au microphone.
Support de microphone
Quand vous utilisez un pied (non fourni), fixez le support au microphone.
Quand la vis d’ajustement de l’angle est desserrée, serrez-la avec une pièce
de monnaie.
Cordon de raccordement
Utilisé pour brancher le connecteur de sortie
au connecteur d’entrée
sur un dispositif externe tel qu’un camcorder (longueur de câble : 380
mm).
Fixation sur une caméra vidéo (Fig.

Pour fixer le microphone sur une caméra vidéo à l’aide d’un support de
microphone
(non fourni), fixer la bague d’adaptation de microphone
fournie (type moulé)
-a au microphone (
). Si les vibrations provenant de
la caméra sont gênantes, utilisez plutôt la bague d’adaptation de microphone
(type moulé)
-b. Retirez les deux feuilles détachables (
) et placez la bague
d’adaptation sur la poignée du microphone (
).
Fixer le microphone au support de sorte que la marque « UP » sur le
microphone soit dirigée vers le haut.
Alimentation
Ce microphone est alimenté seulement sur une source externe. Utilisez
le câble de connexion
pour brancher le connecteur de sortie
au
connecteur d’entrée du microphone (type XLR à 5 broches) du camcorder.
Si vous utilisez un câble de conversion x2 de 5 broches à 3 broches en option
(disponible prochainement), vous pourrez connecter le microphone à un
dispositif qui ne dispose pas de connecteur d’entrée de type XLR à 5 broches,

Remarques
Avant d’raccorder le microphone à un camcorder, vérifiez que le camcorder

Mode de prise de son
Le mode de prise de son est déterminé par les conditions suivantes, comme
indiqué dans le tableau ci-dessous.
Avec le mode de prise de son du microphone frontal réglé depuis le menu du
camcorder (lorsque le microphone est connecté à un camcorder
professionnel tel que le HDW-F900R, le HDW-790 ou le PDW-F350/F330)
ou avec l’état de l’alimentation des canaux L et R du microphone (lorsque le
microphone est connecté à un autre type de dispositif)

Remarques sur l’emploi
Le microphone est délicat. Ne le laissez pas tomber et ne le soumettez pas à
des chocs violents.
Evitez l’utilisation ou le rangement à un emplacement à forte humidité ou
températures au-dessus de 60˚C (140 °F).
En cas de rétroaction acoustique (hurlement en provenance des haut-
parleurs) pendant le fonctionnement, pointez le microphone loin des
haut-parleurs ou augmentez la distance entre le microphone et les haut-
parleurs.
