Stereo Indoor FM Antenna

Your Optimus Stereo Indoor FM Antenna is easy to install
and provides excellent reception of FM radio stations in
most listening locations. This antenna receives signals
equally well from any direction, reducing noise and static
and improving stereo quality. You can connect the anten-
na’s 75-ohm connector directly to your FM receiver. The
antenna’s compact, modern styling blends well with the
decor of almost any home.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN

Depending upon your audio system setup, you might also
need additional cables or adapters (available at your local
RadioShack store).

Choosing a Mounting Location

To get the best performance from your antenna, place it
indoors as high as possible. For the best results, make
sure the antenna is away from obstructions such as metal
cabinets or bookshelves. (Higher frequencies are notice-
ably affected by obstructions.) Do not mount the antenna
near any metal surface such as a refrigerator, a metal
door or wall, or a water pipe hidden behind a wall. This
greatly reduces the antenna’s ability to receive signals.

Working with Coaxial Cable

• Do not create very sharp bends or kinks in coaxial

cable. Tight bends can cause shorts and change the
cable’s impedance.

• Do not install coaxial cable where it will have a pulling

tension of greater than 50 pounds, or where it will be
crushed, stuffed, wedged, or pinched.

• Use only round-headed staples. Any clamps or

securing devices used with coaxial cable should grip
the cable evenly about the circumference without
crushing the cable. Flat staples can damage coaxial
cable.

• Do not expose coaxial cable to a temperature greater

than 176°F (80°C). Keep the cable away from heat-
ing vents and water heaters.

CONNECTING THE ANTENNA

75-Ohm Jack

If your FM receiver has a 75-ohm F-type connector, con-
nect the antenna’s 75-ohm coaxial cable directly to the
connector.

Screw-Type Connections

If your FM receiver has screw-type connections, connect
a matching transformer such as Cat. No. 15-1140 (not
supplied) to the antenna’s coaxial cable. Then use a flat-
head screwdriver to connect both of the lugs on the
matching transformer to your FM receiver’s screw termi-
nals.

Pushbutton-Type Connections

Follow these steps if your FM receiver has pushbutton-
type connections.

1. Connect a matching transformer such as Cat. No. 15-

1140 (not supplied) to the antenna’s coaxial cable.

2. Cut both of the metal lugs off of the matching trans-

former.
