MOPAR OIL PUMP PICKUP

P/N 24770

INSTRUCTIONS

 INSTALLATION

Drain the oil and remove the oil pan and old pan gaskets.  Remove the oil pump from the rear main
and unthread the existing pickup from the pump.  Clean out and remove any oil residue or sealant
from the oil pump threads. Use caution to avoid getting any contamination inside the pump.

Due to variations of engine blocks a STUD FIT-UP is necessary:

Remove the third main cap bolt

on the driver's side and install the 1/2" stud supplied.  Bottom out the stud in the main cap.  Install
one of the 3 washers supplied over the stud and then install the 1/2-20 hex nut.  Firmly tighten the nut
but do not fully torque.  Install the 2nd washer on top of the nut and place the bracket on top of the
washer.  The top surface of the bracket must be flush with the first thread on the stud as shown in the
schematic.  This step is necessary for the 3rd washer and flange nut to secure the pickup bracket.  If
needed the number of exposed threads above the bracket, will need to be cut off from the (1/2
diameter) bottom end of the stud.
We recommend using a pipe sealant on the new oil pump pickup threads and a small amount on the
start of the first two threads in the oil pump.  Avoid using Teflon tape because it could unravel and
clog the oiling system.  Thread the new pickup into the oil pump tightly and orientate the pickup box
parallel with the oil pump cover.  Reinstall and bottom out the 1/2" stud.  Reinstall the 1st washer and
nut. Torque the 1/2" nut to the manufacturers specifications.  Place a new oil pump gasket over the
pump main cap.  Install the 2nd washer and pickup tube with the attached oil pump. Install the oil
pump mounting screws and torque to manufacturers specifications.  Install the 3rd washer with the
inside chamfer facing the bracket and fasten the flange nut. Torque the flange nut to 33 ft-lbs.

Important:

Check the clearance between the oil pump pickup and the oil pan.  Place a small amount

of clay or putty at the (4) corners of the pickup box, protruding outward of 1/2". Without any gaskets
in place, install the oil pan in place and push the pan onto the engine.  Remove the oil pan and check
the height of the clay or putty.  This height should be 1/4" to 3/8".  Reinstall the gaskets and oil pan
and tighten all fasteners to manufacturers specifications.  Refill the oil pan with oil.  We recommend
priming the engine to build oil pressure and lube the rotating components before starting.  Thank you
for using MOROSO PERFORMANCE PRODUCTS.
