... have you been trained

The law  requires that personnel using this type of equipment in

the workplace must be competent and qualified to do so.

Training is available at HSS Training

0845 766 7799

Never push the equipment beyond its design limits.

If it

will not do what you want with reasonable ease and speed,
assume you have the wrong equipment for the job. Contact
HSS Hire for advice.

Keep the equipment clean

- you will find this less of a

chore if you clean it regularly, rather than wait until the end
of the hire period.

The shredder must not be cleaned with high pressure
cleaners or running water.

Clean the body of the machine thoroughly using a soft
brush and cloth.

Do not use water, solvents or polishes.

Remove all grass and debris, especially from the
ventilation slots.
When not in use, store the equipment somewhere
clean, dry and secure.

EQUIPMENT CARE

FINISHING OFF

Switch the unit off and wait for moving parts to stop,
then unplug the unit from its power supply.
Empty the collection container.
Give the unit a final clean then neatly coil its power
supply cable ready for return to your local HSS Hire.

The inserted material will feed in automatically by the
cutter roller.
When shredding, listen to the motor. If it starts to slow
you are probably expecting it to shred too large a
quantity of waste at a time.

Simply reduce the feed rate.

Only insert as much material so that the chute will not get
jammed.
Feed the waste into the top chute

a piece at a time. Do not

insert anything thicker than 45mm.

Note: The inlet diameter of the shredder is limited, so the
material to be composted should not be forced through
the opening, but placed loosely in  the shredder.

While shredding, observe the ventilation slots. Make sure
they are not covered by the shredded material.

If the shredder becomes clogged, the machine will stop after
few seconds.

Press and hold the yellow

button to reverse the cutter and
unblock it. If the blockage cannot be
cleared the pressure plate will need to
be moved away from the cutter.

The adjustment knob will need a
little turn in an anti clock wise
direction until the “jammed”
material is clear. The pressure plate
will need adjustment.

Note: Branches become harder to shred depending on
the type, age and dryness of the wood.
For best results, shred fresh branches soon after they
have been cut.
Soft garden waste should be shredded in smaller loads,
particularly when wet. Any blockages can be avoided
by intermittently shredding branches.

PRESSURE PLATE ADJUSTMENT

The pressure plate is already adjusted
by HSS Hire and will not require
adjustment before the first use.
However adjustment of the pressure
plate is necessary as a result of wear.

WARNING

AVOID BLOCKING THE DISCHARGE CHUTE WITH

SHREDDED MATERIAL AS THIS COULD RESULT IN

KICKBACK OF MATERIAL THROUGH THE CHUTE

OPENING.

With the motor running in the
forward direction (green button),
turn the adjustment knob a small
amount at a time in a clock wise

direction until a
light grinding sound can be heard
(the cutting roller cuts the pressure
plate to the proper clearance, and
some small aluminium shavings fall

out of the ejection chute).

To check, look for shavings in the collection container.
Re-adjust only to the required extent, otherwise the
pressure plate could wear unnecessarily.

When the machine doesn't start, simply switch the tool
off and on again. If this doesn’t solve the problem
check the electric supply,

for example, by plugging in

and starting another appliance.

Check the supply cord

and extension cord. Replace extension cord if found
damaged.

If machine cord is damaged,

don’t try to fix

this tool,

return to HSS Hire.

If the shredder fails to operate, usually this is because
the collection container or chute are not fitted
correctly. The machine is fitted with sensors, unless
they are fitted correctly, the machine will not start and
the buzzer will beep and 2 LED indicators will flash.
When the material to be shredded is not pulled in, it is
usually caused by waste being wet or very soft. Use the
prodder to push material into the machine.
Machine may stop working, if the material is jammed.
Clear jammed waste by using the reverse button. If the
blockage cannot be cleared move the pressure plate
away from the cutter.
When shredded material is not completely separated
and sticks together, the pressure plate may require
adjustment.
