Subject to the “Exclusions” set forth below, Fluidmaster Inc. promises to the consumer to repair, or at the option of Fluidmaster Inc. to replace any
part of this plumbing product which proves to be defective in workmanship or materials under normal use for five years from the date of purchase. All
costs of removal, transportation and reinstallation to obtain warranty service shall be paid by the consumer. During this “Limited Five Year Express
Warranty,” Fluidmaster Inc. will provide, subject to the “Exclusions” section set forth below, all replacement parts free of charge, necessary to correct

Preparing Fill Valve
Push the smaller cone
washer out of the center of
the shank washer with your
thumb. You may use scissors
to cut the four connections
between the shank and cone
washer. Set cone washer
aside. You may need to use
the cone washer if you have a rigid metal water supply
line. Other wise, discard the cone washer. Place Shank
washer onto threaded shank of fill valve. Flat side up.
Place fill valve in tank. Check inside the threaded shank to
make sure the filter is in place. To install the filter, hold
slender end. Push wide end of filter up into shank until it
stops. Then place fill valve in tank.

Attach one end of REFILL
HOSE to REFILL CLIP.
Place clip on right side of
overflow pipe. Attach other
end of hose to nipple on fill
valve with a slight arching
of hose. (See drawing
to the right). Cut tube as
necessary. Do not shove
refill tube down overflow
pipe. This can cause major
water waste.
Check bowl water level by flushing toilet. If bowl
appears to be full but continues to fill, the valve
may be overfilling the bowl causing excess water
to siphon down the trap way. Adjust amount of
water going down into the bowl as follows: Fill
the bowl with a gallon of water. Wait 1 minute
until the bowl water level recedes down and stops.
With a pencil, draw a line at the top of the water
level in the bowl. Now flush the toilet. If the valve
is still filling and the water is up to the line in the
bowl, then the amount of water going into the
bowl is too high and needs to be adjusted. Adjust
the refill by turning the roller clamp with thumb
to the next lower number. Flush the toilet; adjust
until water level in bowl is at the pencil mark when
the fill valve shuts off. If valve shuts off and bowl
is not full, adjust by turning the roller clamp to a
higher number. Repeat until water in bowl is up to
line “0” on roller clamp equals no refill to bowl.

only. DO NOT OVER
TIGHTEN. Over tightening
may crack the fill valve,
or tank, causing flooding.

walls, trip mechanism or
flush valve.

Water Supply Line
With water supply on,
allow the tank to fill and shut off. If
valve does not shut off, lift and hold,
the float cup all the way up by hand.
Valve should shut off. To adjust the
water level setting down, squeeze
the “C” shaped metal clip attached to
the front of the float cup and move
the clip and float cup lower on the
Stainless steel link, then release the
clip. Water should turn off at the new
lower setting. If valve still doesn’t
shut off, then turn off water supply at
wall. Then follow, “REMOVING TOP
OF VALVE, RINSING OUT DEBRIS,
REPLACING SEAL AND REPLACING
TOP OF VALVE.” sets at end of
instructions.

TROUBLESHOOTING
IF FILL VALVE WILL NOT TURN OFF
• IMPORTANT: Sand and rust moves through water pipes. Clear
debris from fill valve. Follow steps: “REMOVING TOP SECTION &
FLUSHING OUT DEBRIS” & ”REPLACING TOP OF FILL VALVE.”
• If new fill valve will not turn off: Remove top section of valve and
check for debris. If no flow or a weak flow, the problem is located
down the inlet tube of the lower shank or in the water supply line
or at the shut off at the wall.
IF FILL VALVE WILL NOT TURN ON
• If fill valve has been in use for some time, and/or the float cup
does not drop when flushing the tank: Replace the 242 seal
located at bottom of the upper section of the fill valve. Follow
the steps: “REMOVING THE TOP SECTION & FLUSHING OUT
DEBRIS, REPLACING VALVE SEAL # 242, and “REPLACING TOP
SECTION OF FILL VALVE.”
IF WATER LEVEL IN BOWL IS TOO LOW
• Make sure the refill hose is supplying water down the overflow pipe.
• Water level in tank may be too low. Raise water level to 1/2” below
top of overflow pipe.(Use “C” shaped metal clip to raise float cup
higher).
IF FILL VALVE CYCLES ON AND OFF BY ITSELF
• This indicates the tank is losing water. The fill valve is refilling the
lost water. Check the flapper and flush valve for leaking.
• If refill hose is down inside the overflow pipe, below the water level
of tank, it will siphon water from tank to bowl. Keep refill hose
above the water level of the tank.
Inspect water supply
line. Replace it if it is worn or
over 5 years old, as part is under
pressure.
1. Attach the Supply line coupling
nut to the fill valve. Turn the
coupling nut clockwise by hand
until tight. Do not over tighten
the nut as it could damage
the fill valve or coupling nut
itself, resulting in flooding and
property damage.
2. Turn on water supply and
check for leaks. If you find
leaking at bottom of tank,

The filter in this kit is optional. It is recommended for use in Hard
water conditions.
1. Take the filter with your thumb and index finger as shown in the figure.
2. Insert the filter into the shank (Open side up).Insert the filter until it
stops. The filter may bend to fit inside the threaded shank.
3. The tab on the bottom of the filter should extend outside of the fill
valve shank.
To clean filter:
A) Remove filter from threaded shank and wash with running
water.
B) Insert the filter into the Shank. (see step 3).

• Make sure water supply is turned off and tank is
flushed out.
• Remove top of valve by twisting central shaft
and lever with the stainless steel link ,1/8th of a
turn counter clockwise. Set top of valve aside.
• Place a coffee cup upside down over the top of
the lower valve body.
• Turn on water supply for
several seconds then turn
off water.
• With top of valve removed
from lower shank.
• Remove old seal and place
new seal in upper section.
• Replace top of valve.
• Press down and turn top
section clockwise 1/8th
turn to
lock.
• Turn
on
water
supply.
• Set upper section of valve
on the lower shank.
• Press down on upper
section while turning it
clockwise, 1/8th of a
turn. Turn all the way
until upper section stops.
• Turn
on
water
supply.
