Loop attenuation
The information is helpful to decide whether the subscriber line is
suitable to carry the ADSL service. DELT is implemented to make
comparative correct evaluation on the usability of the current line
in case that the ADSL service fails to create a link between the
user modem and the office end.

After system startup, FSAP 9800 creates basic PVC 0/16 (
port PVC 8) for ADSL modem management in
proxy
mode.

Extended PVC
In Telnet proxy and
proxy mode, FSAP 9800 creates ex-
tended PVC 1/39 (ADSL port PVC 7).
SNMP Proxy Mode
shows the ADSL modem remote management system in
proxy mode.

The system consists of three parts:

NetNumen
Implements ADSL modem remote management through SNMP,
and provides man-machine interface.
�
FSAP 9800
The FSAP 9800 SNMP agent works in SNMP proxy mode, and
forwards SNMP protocol packets between the NMS and ADSL
modem.
�
ADSL modem
ADSL modem is equivalent to a managed NE.
The SNMP proxy mode not only facilitates the NMS to access the
ADSL modem, but also automatically configures the ADSL modem.
The work flow in SNMP proxy mode is as follows:
1. After being restarted, the ADSL modem uses an SNMP trap
packet to report the ADSL modem information and configures
an ID for FSAP 9800.
2. FSAP 9800 analyzes the ADSL modem information and config-
uration ID.
3. FSAP 9800 also uses an SNMP trap packet to reply to the pack-
ets reported by the subscriber end. This facilitates the
