Care and Maintenance
Safe to Microwave Items
Below are a list of items that are considered microwave-safe with proper precautions. If you are
unsure of the safety of the item, a test may be performed:
1. Fill a microwave-safe container with 1 cup of cold water along with the item you are testing.
2. Heat both items on maximum power for 1 minute. Do not exceed the 1 minute cooking time.
3. Afterward, carefully feel the item being tested. If the item is warm, do not use it for microwave
cooking.

Browning dish
Follow manufacturer’s instructions. The bottom of the browning dish must
be at least 3/16” above the turntable. Incorrect usage may cause the
turntable to break.
Dishware
Follow manufacturer’s instructions. Use microwave-safe dishware only. Do
not use cracked or chipped dishware.
Glass jars
Always remove the lid. Use only to heat food until just warm. Most glass
jars are not heat resistant and may break.
Glassware
Use heat-resistant oven glassware only. Make sure there is no metallic
trim. Do not use cracked or chipped glassware.
Oven cooking bags
Follow manufacturer’s instructions. Do not close with a metal tie. Make slits
to allow steam to escape.
Paper plates and cups
Use for short-term cooking and warming only. Do not leave the microwave
drawer unattended while cooking.
Paper towel
Use to cover food for reheating and absorbing fat. Use for short-term
cooking and warming only.
Parchment paper
Use as a cover to prevent splattering or use as a wrap for steaming.
Wax paper
Use as a cover to prevent splattering.
Plastic items
Follow manufacturer’s instructions. Use microwave-safe plastic only. It
should be labeled “Microwave Safe”. Some plastic items soften as the
contents inside gets hot. “Boiling bags” and tightly closed plastic bags
should be slit, pierced, or vented as directed by their package instructions.
Thermometers
Use microwave-safe thermometers only (meat and candy thermometers).
