2) If the starter rpm is too low and the engine cannot
be started, measure the specific gravity of the bat-
tery with a hydrometer.
The specific gravity of the fluid when fully charged
is over 1.27(at 20°C)[68F].
Fluid with a specific gravity of below 1.24 needs
charging. If the specific gravity cannot be raised
by charging, the battery must be replaced.
The capacities of the standard alternator and the rec-
ommended battery assume only the power neces-
sary for regular engine operation.
If the power is also used for onboard lighting or other
purposes, the generating and charging capacities
may be insufficient. In such cases, consult your
Yanmar dealer or distributor.
